The electric car revolution is just around the corner according to French brand Renault.
Despite what has been a very damp reception for the electric car in Ireland so far this year with just 36 electric vehicles registered or 0.05 per cent of the overall market, Renault claims that this market share will increase dramatically by 2020. By then, Renault expects that one in 10 cars will be electric powered.
Renault will offer the Fluence Z.E for €21,620, which includes a €5,000 government grant. This makes it the same price as the Fluence diesel. Users will lease the battery rather than buying it as part of the car. This will cost €79 per month based on 15,000km per year over four years.
Prior to this, the first electric Renault to arrive will be the Kangoo Z.E, which will cost €16,800, with the battery costing €72 ex VAT per month to lease.
