Dacia's seven-seater takes first AA Ireland car award.

The Dacia Jogger has been named as the best overall car by the AA, in its inaugural AA Ireland Car Awards.

The ceremony, which took place at the Aviva stadium in Dublin today (October 7, 2022), saw the Jogger emerge triumphant over the Kia EV6 and the BMW i4 as the best car of the year. The award was voted on by a judging panel made up of some of Ireland's foremost motoring journalists, including several correspondents from CompleteCar.ie.

Naming Ireland's best cars of the year

The aim of the awards, according to the AA, is to guide consumers toward the best possible choice of new car for their next purchase. There are separate categories, spanning the market from small city car to large luxury models, and each winner is chosen from the best cars available on the market right now, as opposed to those launched in a specific year.

Car of the moment

The Overall Winner trophy is time-limited, and went to the best car launched in the Irish market between October 2021 and October 2022.

"The AA Ireland Car Awards aims to provide consumers with the best possible assistance in choosing a new car for 2023 by asking some of Ireland's top motoring journalists to choose their favourite cars across fourteen different categories. The Dacia Jogger was the overall winner, with one jury member commenting 'The Jogger may not be electric, but in every other sense it's the car of the moment. Spacious, practical, affordable, and frugal - it's the car we ought all to be driving'," said Paddy Comyn, AA Ireland's head of communications.

Skoda takes home four awards

The other winners on the day were the Fiat 500e, which won best city car; the Skoda Fabia, which won best supermini; the Peugeot 308, which won best family hatchback; the Toyota Yaris Cross, which won best small crossover; the Kia Sportage which won best medium crossover; the Skoda Kodiaq, which won best large crossover; the Skoda Superb, which won best large family car;the BMW M3 which won best performance car; the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which won best compact executive; and the BMW 5 Series which won best large executive.
