New Kia Picanto to start from €11,495

This week, Kia's stylish new small car, the Picanto, hits the Irish market.

The new Kia Picanto supermini goes on sale this week (August 8, 2011) in Ireland. The two-model range consists of the entry-level Picanto LX at €11,495 and the high-spec Picanto EX at €12,595.

Standard equipment includes side and curtain airbags, stability control, electric front windows, remote central door locking and a trip computer. The Picanto EX adds to that with air conditioning, electric rear windows, front fog lights, electric folding door mirrors with LED indicators, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, USB, iPod and aux-in connections and a leather steering wheel and gear shift handle.

Both models are powered by a new 1.0-litre petrol engine with just three cylinders. Despite its 998cc capacity it puts out 69hp at 6,200rpm and 95Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. More importantly, it emits just 99g/km of CO2, placing the Picanto firmly within Band A for road tax. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard.

Despite the price premium, the EX is expected to be Kia's best seller, as buyers value the higher specification.

"Kia has enjoyed a healthy 11% share of the small city car segment and with the introduction of the All New Picanto our share of this small but important segment is set to grow. The recently introduced Sportage, this new model and the exciting new Rio which arrives in October reinforces Kia as a world  leader in automotive  design whilst our 7 Year Warranty is a continuous reminder of our commitment to quality and customer service ." commented Kia Motors Ireland Managing Director James Brooks at the launch of the Picanto.
