Skoda has revealed sketch outlines of its next-generation Superb and Kodiaq models, both of which are set to go on sale in Ireland in time for the '241' registration in January 2024. When they arrive, the two models will not only get a new exterior design but also a redesigned interior and extra technology.
Simply Superb
As before, the Superb will be available in both hatchback and estate forms, while customers will still be able to choose between conventional internal combustion engines - both petrol and diesel - and plug-in hybrid options.
Typically a flagship model for the Skoda brand, the Superb name was first used in the 1930s and was reintroduced in 2001. The model was the first Skoda to come with bi-xenon headlights and automatic Tiptronic transmission, while the current-generation Superb was the first Skoda to be offered with plug-in hybrid power. So far, more than three quarters of a million examples have been built.
Skoda's sketches reveal a roughly similar silhouette to the existing Superb, albeit with slightly sharper angles and new light signatures at the front and rear. Skoda says the car will be built at the Volkswagen Group's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Kodiaq brought to bear
At the same time, Skoda will also launch a new Kodiaq, with the car entering its second generation. First launched in 2016, and updated in 2021, more than 740,000 Kodiaqs have been built.
It is expected that the next-generation Kodiaq will come with a choice of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. Unlike the new Superb, however, it will be built at Skoda's plant in Kvasiny in the Czech Republic.
Range refresh
The Kodiaq and the Superb are not the only Skodas to be changing. The brand has also confirmed significant updates for the Octavia, Scala and Kamiq, as well as the Enyaq SUV and Enyaq Coupe. Furthermore, the company will bring out another four all-new electric cars, including a small hatchback, an estate, a seven-seat SUV and a Karoq-replacing electric SUV called the Elroq.
Cornerstones of the range
"The Superb and the Kodiaq are two important cornerstones of the Skoda model range, which is why it's so special for us to introduce the new generations of both model series this autumn," said Skoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer. "The Superb is the flagship of our ICE portfolio and will continue to set standards in terms of comfort and space in its fourth generation, in both Hatch and Estate forms. The second-generation Kodiaq will take safety, technology and versatility to the next level. We continue to offer the best of both worlds and meet our customers' needs, so both models will also be offered with plug-in and mild hybrid options."
