Opel revealed the name of its Experimental concept car days ago - now, the brand has released several images previewing its design features.
The Experimental is intended to show the future direction of Opel's 'Bold and Pure' design philosophy - and will be unveiled at this year's IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich.
"The Opel Experimental marks the start of a new chapter for our brand," said Opel CEO Florian Huettl.
"It was designed to provide a tangible vision of where the Opel brand is heading. We will be revealing more details soon - so stay tuned."
Design features
The revamped Opel 'Blitz' emblem is on prominent display in the pictures. The LED design surrounding the badge - dubbed the Opel 'Compass' - sits at the centre of Opel's trademark 'Vizor' front design.
The Vizor is complemented by wing lighting and an illuminated vertical crease in its centre - which Opel says was designed to add "further drama" to the car.
The Compass design direction is repeated at the rear of the concept, with a prominent red-light graphic on a smooth, flush body surface.
The blade-like wheels are designed with aerodynamic efficiency in mind - a 'hallmark' of Opel's past passenger cars according to itself - and one the company intends to implement on future models.
Inside, passengers are greeted with a profiled seat structure, suggesting that Opel's future seats will be designed with sustainability and resource conservation as a top priority.
Opel's future designs - one eye on the past
Opel's latest design philosophy has much of its grounding in the past, with many of its innovations drawing inspiration from past models, such as the first-generation Opel Manta of 1970.
In particular, the Vizor idea draws heavily from the grille design on the Manta A - however, while the Manta's grille was fitted to cool the internal combustion engine, Opel said that the Vizor would "meet different requirements relevant to future mobility."
These include housing the numerous cameras and sensors for the car's assistance and autonomous driving functions, the LED matrix headlights, the daytime running lights and the LED Blitz badge.
The GT X Experimental concept - which debuted in 2018 - showcased many of these features for the first time. Baxk then, Opel said that the concept gave some "key indicators of what the Russelsheim-based carmaker's models will be and look like later in the 2020s."
