Gowan to star at WorldSkills in the RDS in Dublin

Gowan Auto wants to encourage young people to take up the motor trade.

For the first time, Gowan Auto will be part of the WorldSkills event being held in the RDS in Dublin from September 20th to 22nd. The event is designed for young people who've taken an apprenticeship to compete with the best in their craft.

All nine brands

Gowan Auto, which is the Irish importer for Alfa Romeo, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Honda, Jeep, Opel and Peugeot, will attend the event with representatives from all nine brands and their shared services colleagues, comprising technical, warranty and customer care experts.

WorldSkills will see 160 finalists competing across 31 live National Skills Finals. The winners will go forward to represent Ireland in the global WorldSkills contest in Lyon next year. The event is attended by students, teachers, careers guidance counsellors, and parents who hail from all over Ireland. Many attend to view the live competitions, whilst many more students visit the show looking for ideas, direction, and guidance on the next critical steps as they gear up for post-secondary school education paths.

Promote vacancies

Darrell Doyle, Training Co-ordination Manager at Gowan, said: "We recognise that the WorldSkills Ireland event is a truly unique opportunity to promote careers both within Gowan Auto and across our 150 retail dealers. Indeed, we have reached out to each of our dealer partners to use the event as a platform to directly promote current vacancies for young people within their companies. Crucially, we have not limited our recruitment drive solely to technical apprenticeships; many dealers will take this opportunity to promote vacancies across a broad spectrum of posts, across all facets of their motor business including Sales, Service, Parts, Warranty, and Finance. Furthermore, we are placing a major emphasis on attracting more women to the business to consider both technical and non-technical roles. It promises to be a very exciting, fulfilling event for us."

Driving simulator

To try and bring a bit of fun to proceedings, Gowan will have a driving simulator on its stand, and those who try it out can win places on the Mondello Park Early Drive Electrified by Opel programme, which promotes better driving skills for those who aren't yet old enough to hold a licence. There will also be a mighty 320hp Honda Civic Type-R on the stand.
