Skoda Enyaq gets more power and range

Skoda Enyaq EV can now go 576km on a charge - here for 2024.

Skoda has just given the popular Enyaq - currently the fourth-best-selling electric car in Ireland - a series of detailed updates, focusing on the battery and electric motors. The result is more power and yet more range too.

More range

The range is probably the critical figure for Irish buyers, and now the 77kWh Enyaq 85 Coupe - previously badged as the Enyaq 80 - can now potentially put as much as 576km between charges. The taller, less aerodynamic 'regular' Enyaq 85 will be able to go as far as 565km on one charge.

That's in spite of the rear-mounted motor now being significantly more powerful than before, with a maximum power output of 210kW - 286hp - up from 150kW (204hp) previously. That has cut the 0-100km/h time down to just 6.7 seconds as well.

More power

There's also an upgrade for the all-wheel-drive Enyaq 85x model (previously the 80x) which also has a 210kW power output, 15kW up on the old model. It'll hit 100km/h in 6.6 seconds, and has a range of up to 538km on one charge.

The battery can charge from 10-80 per cent power in as little as 28 minutes, if you can find a sufficiently powerful DC charging point.

Want to go faster? Skoda has also updated the sporty Enyaq RS, which now has a power output of 340hp - or 250kW if you prefer - to go with its four-wheel drive and its 5.5-second 0-100km/h time. You'll put up to 541km between charges in the RS, or 547km if it's the sleeker Coupe model.

Skoda also says that the car's infotainment system - often a point of criticism - has been improved to make it easier and simpler to use.

Not more expensive

Significantly, considering the extra range and the greater power, Skoda won't be increasing the Enyaq's price for the moment. Commenting on the new 2024 Enyaq model line-up, Ray Leddy, Head of Marketing and Product said: "Since launch, the Enyaq has been a huge success for the brand in Ireland. The good news for customers in 2024 is that long lead times have been reduced significantly, and customer order times are now more reflective of other models in the Skoda range. Even better for customers is the fact that the pricing for the new more powerful and efficient Enyaq 85, 85x and RS models will not increase compared to original January pricing of 2023 model versions."
