What is it?
The Ford Fiesta ST concept is the clearest indication yet that after years of lukewarm Fiestas Ford is set to give us a ‘hot’ variant. With the likes of the Skoda Fabia vRS offering 180hp, the 150hp offered in Fiestas of old just does not cut it anymore.
Why's it here?
The proliferation of small hatches like the Alfa Romeo MiTo Cloverleaf and the Skoda Fabia vRS offering upwards of 170hp looks to have tipped Ford’s hand. A long time purveyor of hot hatches, the 180bhp offered by the 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine would give Ford the headline grabbing figures so important in this segment, but at the same time return impressive fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Based on feedback gained at Frankfurt this car may make it to production.
Show stopper or floor filler?
The successor to icons such as the XR2i and RS Turbo is verging on show stopper territory but is overshadowed by production ready hot Focus.
Fiesta XR2i reborn!
