Volkswagen's 1.4-litre TSI engine wins Engine of the Year for second time.

The Volkswagen 1.4 TSI engine has won the overall International Engine of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. In a close race the winner held off BMW's turbocharged 3.0-litre direct injection engine and Mercedes-Benz's AMG 6.2-litre V8. The winning engine offers 127.1hp per litre of displacement, a figure sure to have impressed the judges.

In the New Engine category, the Fiat 1.4 MultiAir Turbo was the winner with Toyota's 1.8-litre hybrid from the Prius winning in the Green Engine category. The Performance Engine category was won by the Mercedes-Benz AMG 6.2 for the second year running.

The judging panel is made up of motoring journalists from around the world.
