Following our preview of the new MG Cyberster in Ireland earlier this month (see video at the bottom of this article), the Chinese company has used the Geneva motor show to confirm a few more technical details. As expected, the electric roadster will be offered with two different powertrains, though Irish pricing for the Cyberster has yet to be announced.
One or two motors
The entry-level MG Cyberster will used a rear-mounted 250kW electric motor. That means up to 340hp to the back wheels and a 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds, thanks in part to the motor's 475Nm peak torque.
For those after even more performance, there's a dual-motor option, adding a motor to the front axle for all-wheel drive. Peak power and torque are quoted as 544hp and 725Nm, respectively, enabling a 0-100km/h time of just 3.7 seconds and making this version of the Cyberster the most powerful and most accelerative MG production car yet.
Yellow is the halo colour
Red and white paint finishes are complemented by metallic grey and metallic silver, while the eye-catching 'Inca Yellow' colour pictured here is described as a "premium option". Buyers can also choose from red or black for the fabric folding roof. This raises or retracts at the touch of a button in about 10 seconds, while the doors also pivot up electrically.
Irish pricing for the MG Cyberster?
MG Ireland still hasn't announced how far the Cyberster will go on a charge of its 77kWh battery pack, but it's expected to be in excess of 400 kilometres. Pricing hasn't been confirmed, either, though it's hoped to come in at under €70,000. We'll let you know when we do.
Busy Geneva show for MG
Alongside the Cyberster at the Geneva motor show is the new MG3 hybrid hatch, making its world debut and confirmed for Irish sales later this year. MG's parent company, SAIC, will also use the event to introduce the Intelligent Mobility (IM) marque to Europe, starting with the all-electric L6 saloon claimed to achieve over 800 kilometres on a charge of its solid-state battery. While unconfirmed, it's possible that the IM brand will be marketed as part of MG when it arrives in Ireland in late 2025.
