Petrol or diesel, hatch or Combi, and three trims for the new Skoda Superb.

Skoda Ireland has confirmed prices and specifications for the new fourth-generation Superb family, and the good news is that - while the car has got a little more expensive than the one it replaces - the numbers haven’t jumped up astronomically, with the entire 12-model range sitting in a bracket from €48,325 and €60,295.

Twelve models in all

There are three specifications for the Superb Mk4 here, which are Selection, Selection + and L&K. Just two engines have been confirmed so far, these being the 1.5-litre TSI petrol with the mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology and the 2.0-litre TDI diesel, both with 150hp and the DSG automatic transmission. The 1.5 costs €48,325 as a Selection, €50,825 as a Selection + and then €57,485 as the L&K. Add around €500 to each of these for a TDI as the same body, or alternatively stick €2,000 on top to switch your petrol Superb hatchback to a Combi estate. That means the TDI Combis are the dearest models by spec of the range, with just one - the diesel L&K wagon - going beyond the 60-grand barrier with a basic €60,295 asking price.

Selection cars are comprehensively equipped and come with (among more) adaptive cruise control, keyless start/stop, a 10.4-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, three-zone climate control, a nine-speaker sound system, front and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera, a powered tailgate with Virtual Pedal motion sensor, an auto-dimming interior mirror, the 10.25-inch digital driver display, heated front seats with a basic pneumatic massage function, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED head-, tail- and daytime running lights, heated and electric exterior mirrors, rear privacy glass and an external Chrome Pack for the detailing. There is also a generous amount of safety equipment, both passive and active driver-assist technology.

Selection + improves the front seats, fitting ergonomically approved items with electric adjustment and operation, including memory function, a more advanced massage feature, and ventilation to go with the standard heating. Buyers also enjoy full leather upholstery in either Black or Cognac, plus ambient interior lighting.

L&K is the most luxurious trim grade and makes the Superb feel suitably grandiose and upmarket. It upgrades the alloys from 18s to 19-inch items, while full Matrix LED headlights are fitted (with washers), and the rear LED clusters have direction-sweep dynamic indicators. The infotainment is also upgraded to a 13-inch screen along with a 12-speaker high-end Canton sound system, while rear passengers enjoy heated seats, too. There’s also standard Dynamic Chassis Control adjustable suspension, drive mode select, L&K-specific exterior detailing and badgework, and then L&K logos and stitching in the cabin.

‘Standard-bearer of Skoda’s range for 20 years’

John Donegan, brand director for Skoda Ireland, said: “The Superb has been the standard-bearer of Skoda’s range for more than 20 years. In its fourth generation, it adds an even more refined, sculptural design, outstanding spaciousness and cutting-edge technology.

“Many competitors have abandoned the large saloon segment, leaving retail and fleet customers with the only option of premium saloons and estates. We are confident the new Superb can compete toe-to-toe with the best premium German cars on quality and refinement while trumping them in terms of spaciousness and value.”

Out of 1.6 million Superbs which have rolled off the production line since it first launched back in 2001, the big Skoda has been the best-selling car in its segment here in Ireland for the past seven years - more than 9,000 examples have been delivered to customers to date. Demand for the old model was strong right until the end, with 2023 representing the third most successful year for Superb sales in the country since it launched. And despite our dislike of estates, the Superb Combi represented almost one-in-five of the sales mix (19 per cent), while 41 per cent of Superbs went to fleet and business customers.

The new fourth-generation Superb and Superb Combi models are available to order now, with the first demonstrator cars arriving in Skoda’s dealerships from May onwards.
