Mercedes-Benz Ireland has launched the latest upmarket MPVs in the form of the new V-Class and electric EQV. They go on sale at the same time as the updated van version, called the Vito.
Luxurious appointments
Where these vehicles have been lacking in the past is with their tech offering, but the updated models now come with the company's latest-generation MBUX infotainment, with high resolution graphics and the company's "Hey Mercedes" voice control system. Elsewhere, there’s online connectivity, while new driver assistance systems are included for improved safety.
On the outside, a reprofiled grille has been added, while new alloy wheel designs and paint options are available. Inside, the cabin has been redesigned to integrate the new MBUX system, while material quality has been uprated, too. Other extras include new LED ambient lighting and wireless smartphone charging, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included.
The V-Class is offered in Avantgarde, Avantgarde AMG and Exclusive specs, with the top-end model designed to offer premium luxury that's geared towards VIP transport, such as for hotels and airport transfers. The other models are pitched towards family users that need the space that a van-based people carrier has to offer, but still with the kind of luxuries you expect from a model with a Mercedes badge on the nose.
Powerful engine range
Power for the V-Class comes from a choice of two diesel engines, both based on the 2.0-litre CDI unit. Kicking off the range is a 190hp version, while a punchy 237hp option is offered at the top of the range. Both come with a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The all-electric EQV is marked out by a smoother front-end design with a blanked-off grille, while it's fitted with a 204hp electric motor and a 90kWh battery. This gives the EQV an official range of up to 365km, according to WLTP figures. Charging of 11kW via an AC source is available, while DC charging of up to 110kW is possible. This will replenish the battery from 10-80 per cent capacity in around 40 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz Ireland's commercial vehicles sales manager, Fergus Conheady, stated that both the V-Class and EQV offer “a discreet and understated level of luxury appropriate to the needs of a reserved and discerning customer base for whom ‘low-key’ is always and ever the overriding consideration”.
Sales of the new V-Class commence this month, with the entry-level V 250 d Avantgarde kicking off the range at €132,460. Prices for the EQV are still to be confirmed, but the updated model is due to arrive in dealers in August.
