The Lough Derg 100 is a scenic 100km drive supporting the Children's Grief Centre.

On June 1, 2024, car enthusiasts will gather at Carey Glass in Nenagh for the annual Lough Derg 100 charitable car event. This combines a love for classic and performance cars with fundraising efforts, supporting the Children's Grief Centre in Limerick.

The Lough Derg 100 is organised by volunteers and car enthusiasts who aim to raise funds for a different charity each year. In 2023, over 100 cars participated, raising more than €6,000 for the North Tipp Hospice. This year, the focus is on the Children's Grief Centre, which provides support for children and young people dealing with loss through death, separation, or divorce.

Participants will gather at Carey Glass on Limerick Road in Nenagh, where the classic and performance cars will be displayed to the public from 11am to 1pm. The event will then proceed with a 100km scenic drive around Lough Derg, concluding at Clarisford Park in Killaloe, where the cars will again be on display until 2.30pm.

Donations will be collected to support the Children's Grief Centre, with no fixed contribution amount required. All funds raised will directly aid the centre's services for grieving children and their families.

John Joe Lewis, the lead organiser, highlighted the event's significance, saying: "It's a special opportunity for car enthusiasts to come together, enjoy the beauty of the region and contribute to a cause that touches the lives of young people in our community. We encourage everyone to participate and help make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.”

The event is open to all car enthusiasts, regardless of the vehicle make or model. Further details can be found on the Lough Derg 100 Facebook and Instagram pages.

The Children's Grief Centre, based in Limerick, is the only organisation in Ireland offering one-to-one support for children aged 4 to 18 affected by loss. The service is free and primarily serves the mid-west region, though children from across the country also access its services. Each year, approximately 250 children and young people benefit from the centre's support.
