Join the free classic vehicle show at Waterford Training Centre on 6 July.

The Waterford Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB) is set to host its fifth Classic Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, 6 July 2024. The event will be held at the Waterford Training Centre in the Waterford Industrial Estate from 10am to 1pm, is free for both the public and participants and is family-friendly.

This year's show will feature over 150 classic cars, motorcycles and vans. Previous events have displayed vehicles such as a pair of Borgwards, a 1932 Ford hot rod, various American pickups, a 1908 Reo, a 1926 Essex, a 1951 Indian Chief motorcycle and a wide range of Beetles, Anglias, Escorts, BMWs and Toyotas.

The show highlights the skills of participants from the Classic Car Restoration day and evening courses at the WWETB Waterford Training Centre. Launched in 2016, the Classic Car Restoration course is the only programme of its kind in Ireland. Over 300 individuals have completed the course and gained qualifications. On the day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the techniques used in car restoration and experience virtual reality areas of the workshop.

Pat Bolger, the Classic Car Restoration course instructor with over 40 years of experience, commented on the event: "Each year this show gets bigger and better, it's one not to be missed for any motoring enthusiast. The motors on display will certainly be enjoyed but it's also a rare opportunity to get inside our car restoration workshop and check out the different workstations and processes behind this intricate work."

Shay Cummins, assistant manager at the Waterford Training Centre, expressed his excitement about the upcoming event saying, "We are delighted to announce the fifth classic car and motorbike show anniversary (would be seventh except for Covid). What started as an idea to invite people to see the work that we do in delivering Ireland's only professional classic car restoration course has evolved into a hugely popular motor show each year.

“Not only do we get to celebrate the works completed by the course participants who have taken part in either the Classic Car Restoration day course or the evening course over the previous 20 weeks at the WWETB Waterford Training Centre, but we also get to enjoy some rare and spectacular samples of people's pride and joy. This year at the show there will be two prizes, presented to the Best Classic Car and the Best Classic Motorcycle judged by the participants in the show."

Additionally, the Skills for the Green Economy team will highlight the NZEB Retrofit Training Centre, demonstrating how it integrates virtual reality into its training program for the construction industry.

For families, a professional face painter, Aine of Fantasy Face Art, will offer free face painting during the event. Classic and vintage enthusiasts are also invited to bring their vehicles and participate in the show. For more details, visit WWETB's Facebook page.
