Bord Gáis EV charger and electricity discounts

Bord Gáis Energy introduces offers to ease the transition to electric driving.

Bord Gáis Energy is aiming to make it more convenient for customers to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) with new offers. As part of this initiative, new customers can avail of a 33 per cent discount on electricity and a €150 reduction on EV charger installation. These offers are available for a limited time.

New customers who sign up for Bord Gáis Energy’s ‘EV Smart Plan’ and install a Hive EV charger by August 31, 2024, will receive a €150 credit on their bill. Additionally, those who join before July 31, 2024, can benefit from a 33 per cent discount on their domestic electricity plan. This combination of discounts is designed to make the transition to electric vehicles more cost-effective.

Reduced price for Hive EV charger

The Hive EO mini-Pro 3 charger, now reduced by €150, can be purchased on the Bord Gáis Energy website and installed by local tradespeople through Bord Gáis Energy’s ‘Local Heroes’ service. The Hive EO mini-Pro 3 is a compact A5 size with a matte black finish.

The company’s EV Smart Plans are specifically designed for electric vehicle owners, offering reduced night rates for charging. According to Bord Gáis Energy, a full overnight charge at night rates can provide between 300km to 500km of range, depending on the vehicle, costing from €9.50. This cost is added to the customer’s regular domestic electricity bill.

Bord Gáis claims commitment to greener future

Teresa Purtill, Director of Services & Solutions at Bord Gáis Energy, emphasised the company’s commitment to a greener future: “At Bord Gáis Energy, we’re helping our customers make smarter energy choices to protect our planet and those we care about. We’re committed to energising a greener, fairer, future for our customers and electric vehicles play a key role in this.

“While the asking price of an EV is often higher than an equivalent petrol or diesel, research shows that the day-to-day savings currently swing in favour of electric. Switching to an EV could help the typical person cut their costs on transport in half, with the added benefit of knowing you’re actively contributing to a greener tomorrow. With our smart home charging, we’re helping EV owners take better control of their electric charging and costs.”
