The Cupra Terramar is a new mid-sized SUV to start at under €50,000.

Cupra has revealed the Terramar, a mid-sized SUV that shares its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Tiguan but is designed to offer a sportier and more dynamic driving experience. Named after the Sitges-Terramar racing circuit near Barcelona, the Terramar is 4.5 metres long, positioning it in the same market segment as the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai.

Powertrains and performance

The Cupra Terramar will be sold in five variants across three powertrain technologies: petrol, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The entry-level model features the familiar 1.5-litre TSI 150hp petrol engine but there will be a more powerful 265hp version on offer, too. The PHEV delivers up to 272hp and has an all-electric range of over 100km. There won’t be an all-electric Terramar offered, and Cupra has confirmed that it will be the final internal-combustion-engined model it releases as the brand shifts towards full electrification. As standard, the Terramar comes with progressive steering (variable ratio) and sports suspension. Wheels are 19- or 20-inch rims with the option of Akebono brakes.

Design and interior

The Terramar follows Cupra's signature design language, featuring a ‘shark-nosed’ front end, triangular LED headlights and an illuminated rear badge, all tying it visually to other models in the Cupra range. The interior has a 12.9-inch touchscreen that is angled towards the driver and a central spine that wraps around the centre console, emphasising the car’s sporty character.

Standard features include sports seats and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display that can be configured to show various functions like trip information or navigation.

The Terramar will be available in nine exterior colours, including two matt options - Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt - as well as Dark Void, which is inspired by the plasma colour of the Cupra DarkRebel concept car. Cupra also continues its collaboration with Sennheiser, and the car features a high-fidelity 12-speaker sound system.

Although there are currently no plans to offer a seven-seat version of the Terramar, it will indirectly replace the SEAT Tarraco seven-seater, as SEAT shifts its focus towards electric mobility with smaller city cars and e-scooters.

Pricing and availability

Irish pricing for the Cupra Terramar has yet to be confirmed, but CompleteCar.ie has been told it will start at under €50,000. The PHEV will be go on sale in November 2024 and deliveries will begin in Ireland in the first quarter of 2025.

Designed and developed in Barcelona, the Cupra Terramar will be produced in Audi’s Györ plant in Hungary.
