Peugeot will launch big-battery versions of the E-3008 and E-5008 at the Paris Motor Show, with potential one-charge ranges of up to 700km.
How big is the new battery?
The new versions of the recently launched electric SUVs swap out the standard 73kWh battery for a long-range 96.9kWh unit. That’s enough stored energy to give the E-3008 a claimed WLTP range of up to 700km (compared to 527km for the standard model) while the larger seven-seat E-5008 claims a 668km range (compared to 502km as standard).
These long-range versions get a new 230hp electric motor driving the front wheels, a small step-up in power from the standard 210hp versions. Both the E-3008 and E-5008 also come with an upgraded battery pre-conditioning system, which allows for faster charging stops on long journeys.
What about charging?
As with the standard models, charging speeds are up to 160kW on DC power from a high-speed charger, which means a 20-80 per cent charge in 27 minutes, or you can add 150km in ten minutes. The battery itself is some 15mm thicker than the 73kWh battery pack, but Peugeot says that the flexibility of the STLA-Medium platform means that neither car loses any boot volume nor cabin space.
According to Peugeot, the extra range of the E-3008 long-range model means that it can travel from Paris to Nice with only two stops en route, where most rivals would need three charging stops to cover that distance.
Anything else?
As with the standard versions, both long-range models of the E3008 and E-5008 get the striking 21-inch curved digital dashboard, while the E-5008 is pretty much unique at the moment in offers seats for seven with a 650km+ electric range.
Both models will be on display at the Paris Motor Show, and will go on sale towards the end of this year.
