Peugeot expands electric range with E-408

New electric 408 will appear on Peugeot’s stand at the Paris Motor Show

Peugeot has confirmed that it will launch the all-electric version of the low-slung 408 crossover at the Paris Motor Show.

Big electric push

The new E-408 will be part of Peugeot's big electric push in Paris. The stand will also feature the new long-range EV versions of the E-3008 and E-5008.

Peugeot says that the new E-408 completes its electric passenger car lineup, as it now offers a fully electric version of every passenger car it makes (aside from the 508 saloon, which will soon be discontinued).

We don’t have any technical details of the E-408 just yet, but given that it shares its structure with the E-308, it’s likely that the E-408 will also use the same 51kWh battery (net) and have a range of in and around 400km.

’Hypersquare’ wheel concept

As well as featuring all of Peugeot’s fully-electric models - from E-208 to E-5008 - the Peugeot stand in Paris will also give show-goers a chance to see Peugeot’s Inception concept car, which takes the STLA electric car platform (as used by the E-3008 and E-5008) and wraps it in dramatic bodywork. The Inception also shows off Peugeot’s new ‘Hypersquare’ steering wheel, a dramatic oblong-shaped wheel with little internal circular fixtures, which means you can turn the ‘wheel’ without it being round. Peugeot has promised that this Hypersquare wheel will go into production by 2026.

9X8 racing car

Elsewhere on the stand, Peugeot will showcase its association with the Under The Pole ocean exploration group and the Born Free wildlife preservation charity and display its dramatic 9X8 World Endurance Championship race car. Peugeot has re-confirmed its commitment to endurance racing this year despite a poor showing at the Le Mans 24 hours, and drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Nico Müller will be on hand to discuss the car.

If you’re looking for something a little more customer-focused, Peugeot will also be touting its new Allure Car warranty, which extends the standard warranty to eight years and 160,000km. Currently, it’s only available on a test basis in France and Spain.
