MG Ireland has announced that its new HS plug-in hybrid SUV will have a starting price of €40,995 - a price tag that significantly undercuts that of rivals from Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, and even BYD.
Deliveries coming before the end of the year
The new HS goes on sale at Irish MG dealers this month, with deliveries slated for the end of the year. It will come in two trim levels: Excite and Exclusive. Standard equipment includes two 12.3-inch screens - instruments and infotainment - with connectivity such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in Amazon Music.
Standard safety kit
Standard safety equipment includes active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning system, blind spot detection with lane change assist, driver attention alert, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, door open warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, and intelligent speed limit assist.
High-spec Exclusive model
The higher spec Exclusive model, which costs from €43,995, comes with 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, front fog lights, electrically adjustable and folding heated door mirrors with memory function, electric 6-way driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment and a memory function, a power tailgate, an eight-speaker audio system, MG iSmart infotainment with live services, wireless smartphone charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality as standard.
120km EV range
This new HS is bigger than the old model, some 14mm wider and 45mm longer. The boot is bigger, too, now up to 507 litres.
As standard, the MG HS is a plug-in hybrid. It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 154kW electric motor, giving it a 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds. More importantly, a chunky 27.4kWh battery gives it a 120km electric range. MG reckons that a combined full battery and full fuel tank will allow you to hit more than 1,000km before refuelling or recharging.
As with all MG models, there’s a standard seven-year, 150,000km warranty.
