Star of Ford's stand at the Moscow Motor Show in August will be a significantly revised Mondeo line-up, boasting a restyle inside and out, new turbocharged engines and technology. It arrives in Ireland before the end of 2010.
At the front, the bonnet and bumper have been redesigned. They're complemented by bolder grille openings and LED daytime running lights. LEDs are also employed in the new-look rear lamps. They're offset by a mild restyle of the back of the car.
Inside, the centre console is all-new, as are the door cappings and an overhead console with ambient lighting. LEDs are also used inside.
The biggest changes come under that reshaped bonnet. The Mondeo will be the first Ford to feature a new 240hp, 2.0-litre version of the recently launched EcoBoost range of petrol engines. It's turbocharged and uses direct injection to enhance efficiency. It joins a 203hp variant of the same engine.
However, the biggest sellers in Ireland will be diesel. Ford has announced the introduction of a revised 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine producing up to 200hp. It's the flagship of the turbodiesel line-up that includes an improved 2.0-litre TDCi engine available in 114-, 140- and 163hp guises. Those all boast CO2 emissions of 139g/km for band B road tax.
Ford's dual-clutch automatic (called PowerShift) will be standard on Mondeos with the EcoBoost petrol engines and optional on some diesel versions.
Helping to enhance the Mondeo's efficiency is a raft of new functions, including Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and an Active Grille Shutter system.
Full details will be available closer to the new Mondeo's on-sale date in Ireland at the end of 2010.
