Subaru will show the Advanced Sports Tourer Concept, an all-new Impreza and the BRZ rear-wheel drive coupé at this year's Tokyo Motor Show. The show opens on 30th November.
The Subaru Advanced Sports Tourer Concept is designed to look sleek and sporty whilst providing the space expected of a C-segment estate car. It features a glass roof and the interior features a mixture of wood and metal for texture and ambience.
Power comes from a 1.6-litre engine with direct injection and turbocharging. This drives through what Subaru describes as the world's first longitudinally mounted CVT for a production all-wheel drive car. Called Lineartronic it is designed to handle the torque from turbocharged engines.
The hybrid system uses a single electric motor and gives fully electric operation when starting and at low speeds as well as providing regenerative braking.
The new Impreza Sport (five-door) and G4 (four-door) use the latest boxer engines and Lineartronic transmission. They are lighter with less aerodynamic drag and lower rolling resistance than the old model. Subaru claims that special attention has been paid to ensure the Impreza is fun to drive and that the interior is spacious and comfortable without increasing the size of the body.
The Subaru BRZ coupé was designed in conjunction with Toyota. Power comes from a direct-injection, 2.0-litre flat-four engine that drives the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Subaru Ireland hopes to have the new Impreza and the BRZ coupé on sale by the end of 2012.
