#mce_temp_url#Honda has shown off the latest versions of its all-new-start 0 series electric vehicles (EVs) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 over in Las Vegas. Called the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV, the Japanese manufacturer showed both machines last year at CES, but now they’re closer to production-ready, with the company claiming they will be entering global markets from 2026 onwards.
Can we start with the wedge-shaped thing?
We can, as that’s the one which goes by the ultra-prosaic name of Honda 0 Saloon. That’s criminally underselling what you’d get, though, with the dramatic styling lines of the concept versions we’ve already seen preserved. If this does indeed make it to market like this in 2026, those futuristic cars that have been in sci-fi movies over the years will have been made reality.
The 0 Saloon will form the flagship of Honda’s EV series, boasting interior room far greater than might be imagined when looking at the rakish exterior; just think Tardis. Anyway, embodying the manufacturer’s ‘Thin, Light and Wise’ development approach, for this year’s appearance Honda is focusing on the technologies and features in the 0 Saloon that will form the ‘Wise’ aspect of it. This includes Level 3 autonomous driving, as well as ‘ultra-personal optimisation’ that will allow each occupant to tailor their respective interior zone exactly to their liking. This is because of the new Asimo Operating System (OS).
Asimo? As in that cute little humanoid robot dude of Honda’s?
That’s the fella. Asimo first appeared in 2000 and has become something of a beloved figure in Honda’s history, and development work on the robot has informed the OS for the cars. So the Asimo system will be in control of the automated driving and advanced driver assistance systems, not just the infotainment set-up.
OK, and does the other vehicle have Asimo OS as well?
Yes. It’s the 0 SUV, the artist formerly known as the Space Hub… a considerably cooler name, we’re sure you’ll agree. Anyway, this one has changed shape a little more compared to its concept from 2024 than the 0 Saloon has, but we have to say we don’t dislike the unusual look of the 0 SUV at all. Interestingly, Honda says the 0 SUV will arrive before the 0 Saloon, mainly because it’s a lucrative midsized electric SUV, and one of its features will be high-precision attitude estimation and stabilisation control. This highfalutin phrase simply means that onboard 3D gyro sensors will attempt to keep the 0 SUV’s body as flat and controlled as possible in a wide variety of driving scenarios.
And when will they both hit the market, then?
The 0 SUV will land in America in the first half of 2026, intriguingly enough, before subsequently launching in its homeland of Japan, and Europe too. The 0 Saloon will launch in the same markets in the same order, but a little later next year.
