The BYD Sealion 7, a new mid-sized electric SUV, has joined the brand's growing lineup in Ireland. This marks BYD's fifth model in the country in just two years, and there's more to come in 2025 and into 2026. At its Irish-market launch to the media today, pricing of the Sealion 7 was announced by Motor Distributors Limited (MDL), the importer of BYD in Ireland.
So, how much does the BYD Sealion 7 cost in Ireland?
The BYD Sealion 7 is available in three variants: the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Comfort model, priced from €45,435 (including all government incentives), and two all-wheel-drive versions - Design and Excellence - priced from €52,390 and €56,490, respectively.
As a basis, the Sealion 7 Comfort gets an 82.5kWh battery pack (using BYD's 'blade' battery design), synthetic leather upholstery, a 15.6-inch touchscreen (which can be rotated 90 degrees), a 360-degree camera system, 19-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a panoramic glass roof with an electric blind.
The all-wheel-drive Sealion 7 Design can be distinguished by its 20-inch wheels and red brake callipers, while the Excellence AWD variant also gets Nappa leather seats and a head-up display. Not to mention a slightly bigger battery rated at 91.3kWh.
What's the range of the BYD Sealion 7?
BYD quotes a WLTP range of 482 kilometres for the Comfort model, with up to 150kW charging on DC outlets. It gets a single rear-mounted motor, incidentally, good for 313hp, 380Nm of torque and 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.
The Design and Excellence models' extra electric motor ups peak power and torque to 530hp and 690Nm, respectively, meaning 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds. The Sealion 7 Design's official range is 456km, while the Excellence's larger battery means a range of up to 502km. This pack comes with a faster peak DC-charging rate of 230kW as well, in theory enabling a 10-80 per cent charge in as little as 24 minutes.
On three-phase AC outlets, all cars can charge at up to 11kW, while a heat pump is included as standard.
What's the battery warranty like?
Pretty reassuring. While the car as a whole comes with a six-year/150,000km warranty, the motor and power electronics are covered for up to eight years (or the same mileage) and the battery itself comes with an eight-year/200,000km warranty.
You mentioned other new BYDs on the way...
Indeed. The next two cars to arrive in Ireland from BYD are the Atto 2 (an electric crossover we've already driven if you're interested) and the Dolphin Surf. The latter is marketed as the BYD Seagull in some markets and was expected to be badged the Dolphin Mini in Ireland, but now we know the confirmed name. It's a city-sized electric car. In 2026 BYD will launch a hatchback and a large SUV.
