Volvo Ireland trims EX40 and EC40 prices

Volvo Ireland trims EX40 and EC40 prices
Volvo has knocked €3,255 off the price of their electric SUVs, and the updated XC60 is on the way too.

Volvo Car Ireland has announced a price cut for the all-electric EX40 and EC40 SUVs. The EX40 - recently rebadged from its old XC40 name - and the EC40 - effectively a coupe-roofed version of the EX40 - now have a starting price of €48,990, a reduction of €3,255 from before.

When can I have one of these cheaper models?

The two electric SUV twins also now come in new colour options - Aurora Silver, Forest Lake, and Denim Blue - and a PCP finance rate of just 1.95 per cent. Both models are available to order for July delivery in Ireland.

What about other Volvos?

That's not all Volvo's up to, though. The bigger XC60 SUV has been given some major revisions to keep it fresh in the fight against the likes of the BMW X3 and the new Audi Q5, and it will have a starting price of €67,145 - significantly less than the price of either of those German rivals - when it goes on sale in Ireland in July as well.

The XC60 also gets some new colour options - Mulberry red, Aurora Silver, and Forest Lake - and a PCP finance rate of 3.95 per cent.

What's different about the XC60?

The XC60's updates include a new infotainment system and new exterior styling, and you can read more about that HERE. A new all-electric EX60 is also on the way soon, but the plug-in hybrid-engined XC60 will be kept on sale alongside it for the time being until the market for full EVs starts to mature, just as Volvo has done with the bigger EX90 and XC90.

Both model ranges also come with Black Edition versions, with darkened exterior trim for a sportier look. The Black Edition EX40 and EC40 are available in Crystal White, Denim Blue, and Vapour Grey, while the Black Edition XC60 comes in the same colour options.

What's the range of the EX40 and EC40?

Both the EX40 and EC40 received a major update two years ago, which saw them gain bigger batteries and switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive (with the option of ultra-fast four-wheel drive models). The rear-drive EX40 has a maximum range of up to 569km, while the slightly sleeker EC40 can travel up to 576km on a full charge.

The revised XC60 will be sticking with its T6 and T8 plug-in hybrid engines, with up to 455hp and up to 80km of electric-only driving thanks to an 18.8kWh battery.
