Drogheda Motor Show wants to put you on screen

Drogheda Motor Show calls for ‘local talent to appear in a powerful new road safety campaign’.

The Drogheda Motor Show, the annual event in the Co. Louth town where the local car dealers get together to show off their latest vehicular wares, is launching a new road safety campaign, and it wants you to be the star.

What am I starring in?

The new safety campaign is backed by First Citizen Finance, Drogheda & District Chamber, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), Louth County Council, An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and will consist of a series of short films.

The films aim to reinforce the point that while modern cars are safer than ever, true road safety always starts and ends with the person behind the wheel. Three films will be shot, and will be shown in local cinemas and on social media. The team behind the project says that the series will be: “tackling real-life driving behaviours around seatbelt use, speeding, and driver fatigue.”

The best part is that you could be a part of all this. The team is looking for two people to feature in two of the films, and they say that no prior acting experience is required: “just passion, presence, and the willingness to help make our roads safer.”

Who's making the films?

The films will be produced with Drogheda-based non-profit community media organisation EurAV and award-winning filmmaker Declan Cassidy, who said: “When I was approached about getting involved in this initiative, I didn't have to think twice. This might be a fun local production, but the message has the power to save lives.”

So, what are the criteria? Well, the Drogheda Motor Show team is looking for one male and one female performer, and they can be of any age from late 20s to pre-retirement. According to the casting call, the female performer should be: “confident and responsible - think capable and calm under pressure,” while the male performer should be: “more uneasy - think of someone caught out for not doing something they should have.”

Where do I need to go?

Filming will take place in and around Drogheda and should take no more than half a day. You will be paid €250 for your time.

According to the Drogheda Motor Show: “This initiative is a key part of the Local Road Safety Awareness Action Plan 2025, driven by Drogheda's nine local motor dealers and supported by community and business stakeholders. The campaign underscores a shared commitment: to reduce accidents, promote responsible driving, and engage the local community in shaping safer roads for everyone."
