A pink Audi A1 was elevated to fine art on Thursday last (June 24) at an auction to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The car was specially spin-painted for the occasion by Damien Hirst and fetched a staggering £350,000 (about €427,000) when the gavel fell. The buyer was not identified.
The auction was held during the annual White Tie & Tiara Ball, which had 700 VIP guests invited to Sir Elton John's Windsor home. The car was described as "fully drivable and road legal" before it hit the auction podium.
