The Toyota Avensis and Hilux have been given a makeover ready for 2012 with updated exterior and interior styling. Both models boast lower fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions.
For the Avensis the re-style brings its appearance in line with the next generation of Toyota cars. The headlamps incorporate daytime running lamps while both upper and lower radiator grilles are re-shaped with the latter being enlarged. At the rear the saloon's bumper is restyled and there are new tail lamps. A chrome number plate surround finishes things off.
The Hilux is described as 'entirely new from the A-pillar forward'. By changing the front end Toyota has gone for a more SUV-style appearance for the pick-up. The rear wings have also been re-shaped and there are new 15- and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Interior quality has been improved in each vehicle. For the Hilux that includes a more uniform colour finish across the cabin, while the Avensis features materials that have greater tactile appeal. The Toyota Touch multimedia system is available in both models.
The 124hp, 2.0-litre D-4D engine in the Avensis has been given a new turbocharger and revised cylinder head. As a result fuel economy is improved and CO2 emissions are down to 120g/km. Changes to the 2.5- and 3.0-litre D-4D units in the Hilux have also cut carbon dioxide output to 193g/km and 203g/km respectively.
Both the Avensis and Hilux are on sale now; look out for our reviews in the New Year.
