Visitors to this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed in England will be treated to a 3,550hp Mini powered by an 11-tonne Cummins diesel engine.
The engine (codenamed QSK78), normally used for mining dump trucks, was fitted to the car after a request by a Mini owner who saw the engine on display at a previous show. Boasting a capacity of 78-litres the V18 engine develops 3,550hp and 14,000Nm of torque. The Cummins Mini also has 12 turbochargers. Cummins is one of the largest independent manufacturers of diesel engines and currently provides engines for US car maker, Dodge, among others.
Steve Nendick, Cummins Communications Director for Europe, said: "We never like to let a challenge go by unanswered so we got to thinking maybe we could fit the QSK78 into an original Austin Mini. It proved to be a bit tricky to fit under the bonnet but our engineers came up with a more creative solution."
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual event taking place this year from Thursday 1- Sunday 4 July. Car enthusiasts from around the world flock to one of the best automotive festivals on offer. Cummins stand is sure to be a favourite with visitors this year.
