It is the news that petrolheads the world over have been waiting on - Honda is to revive is legendary NSX badge and is using the Detroit Auto Show to preview the long-awaited sports car.
While the NSX Concept was revealed by Acura, Honda's upmarket American division, the car has been confirmed for the European market with an official unveiling of the Honda-badged car at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
For the moment Honda is remaining tight lipped on the performance details of the car but did confirm that it will feature a mid-mounted V6 petrol engine that will power the rear wheels, plus a pair of electric motors at the front. Combined they should produce close to 400hp. A version of Honda's SH-AWD system was also confirmed.
Honda has revealed that the NSX will be 'lightweight' though whether this will be due to the extensive use of aluminium as in the original NSX or more exotic materials remains to be seen. Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co. commented: "While most supercars opt for brute force delivered from a large engine, the NSX Concept champions the true racing philosophy of an extremely favorable power-to-weight ratio. Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency."
The Honda NSX is expected to enter the market in 2014 and will be built by Acura at its plant in Ohio in the States. More details on the European specification car are expected at the Geneva Motor Show.
