Nissan launched the electric e-NV200 at the North America International Auto Show. Although billed as a concept car it previews a 'near-future production' vehicle with a flexible interior and zero tailpipe emissions.
The show car is based on Nissan's light commercial NV200 van. At the front the styling has been altered to resemble the LEAF. The paint colour is Aqua Blue, chosen to express environmental friendliness apparently.
Large rear windows and glass roof panels have been fitted to give the interior a light, airy feel. Bright colours and blue accents have been chosen for the cabin and there is a display designed to resemble and respond like a tablet computer.
Power comes from a lithium-ion battery pack that feeds a 108hp AC electric motor, which also develops 280Nm of torque. Nissan promises lively, enjoyable performance and economy comparable to conventionally powered vehicles. However, no projected performance or range figures have yet been released.
Nissan is trialling electric versions of the NV200 van around the world. Last year a prototype completed initial evaluation by Japan Post Service.
