Tuned Toyotas star at 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon

Tuned GT 86 coupé stars among brace of new tuned Toyotas.

Toyota has used the Tokyo Auto Salon - the world's largest custom car show - to unveil a host of new concepts headed by a pair of tuned pocket rockets.

GRMN - Gazoo Racing tuned by MN - is showing a further development of its limited edition iQ 130G MT. The second generation car benefits from refinement to the supercharged 1.33-litre engine and produces 127hp and 180Nm of torque. Featuring a six-speed close ratio gearbox, uprated brakes, full body kit, 16-inch Enkei wheels and sports suspension and exhaust systems the GRMN iQ Supercharger is scheduled for a limited run of 100 units later this year.

GRMN has also been working on a turbocharged version of the new Yaris. Powered by a 177hp 1.5-litre turbocharged engine the Turbo Concept is track ready with reworked suspension, uprated brakes and 18-inch rims.

Toyota's in-house tuning division - Toyota Racing Development (or TRD) - has wasted no time in reworking the recently launched GT 86 for the tuner market. The TRD Performance Line GT 86 includes a reworked suspension with new front and rear anti-roll bars, a carbon front strut brace, rear diffuser and a high-response exhaust system. Finished in Satin White Pearl, the coupé gains a full body kit with skirts and spoilers, 18-inch alloy wheels and sports seats and meters in the cabin.

The Toyota GT 86 will be on sale in Ireland by the summer.
