The engine line-up for the recently launched, second generation, BMW 1 Series five-door hatch is to be completed in March with the introduction of three new powertrains that will be joined by the M Sport specification.
The 116hp, four-cylinder, 1.6-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that powers the €29,010 116d EfficientDynamics model is the first of two diesel units and offers 0-100km/h acceleration of 10.5 seconds and returns 74.4mpg (3.8 litres/100km) and CO2 emissions of just 99g/km. This means that it qualifies for Band A road tax, at €160 per year.
Based on SE specification, the BMW 116d EfficientDynamics comes with 16-inch alloys, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, front fog lights, multifunction leather steering wheel and BMW Professional Radio with freestanding 6.5-inch display and iDrive controller.
The second new diesel engine is a 218hp 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo unit that powers the 125d. With 450Nm of torque at its disposal the 125d takes just 6.5 seconds to reach 100km/h from standstill yet offers 57.6mpg (4.9 litres/100km) and 129g/km CO2 on the combined cycle. The petrol powered 125i has the same horsepower and 0-100km/h time but only manages 44.1mpg (6.4 litres/100km) and 152g/km CO2.
The M Sport package will also arrive in March as the top trim level for the five-door 1 Series. It includes 18-inch M Sport alloys, a body kit, sports suspension that lowers the car by 10mm and M Sport badged steering wheel, gearlever and doorsills.
While the 1 Series hatch receives M Sport treatment the outgoing Coupé and Convertible models go even further with new Exclusive trim level. The new special editions offer enhanced standard equipment, alloy wheels and unique upholstery though pricing has yet to be released by BMW Ireland.
