SsangYong looks set to wade into the premium crossover market and the XIV-2 concept has the Range Rover Evoque firmly in its sights. Set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the XIV-2 (which stands for (eXciting User Interface Vehicle 2, obviously) concept boasts aggressive styling from the lesser known Korean manufacturer that 'blends the characteristics of a robust and powerful SUV with the dynamic style of an open top sports coupé.'
There is more than a touch of the Evoque to the XIV-2's lines with the high waistline and thick C-pillar both aped, but the SsangYong does distinguish itself by featuring a clever soft-top panoramic roof that opens up for the full wind-in-your hair experience at a single press of a button.
Built as the successor to the XIV-1 that was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version should be powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines while the car's size (slightly smaller than the Evoque) bodes well for performance and dynamics.
There is no official word yet on whether or not the XIV-2 will spawn a production model, but if it is received well when unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show the concept could be given the green light with a road car arriving as early as 2014.
