Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an updated version of its large CL coupé at the Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands, Surrey. The mid-life refresh focuses on reducing CO2 and improving fuel economy.
The CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY is fitted with an all-new bi-turbo V8 engine now offering 435hp (up from 388hp), and 700Nm of torque (up from 530Nm). Fuel consumption has improved by 23 per cent to 9.51 litres/100km (29.7mpg) with CO2 emissions now 224g/km, putting it in Band F with road tax of €1,050 per year. The reduced CO2 is achieved by the addition of third-generation spray-guided direct petrol injection and an ECO start/stop function. New safety offerings include Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist.
The special order, CL 600, with 517hp from its 12-cylinder bi-turbo engine, hits 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds and now meets Euro 5 emissions control standards. CO2 emissions are 322g/km putting it in Band G, with road tax of €2,100 per year.
A redesigned front bumper with an integrated LED strip for daytime running lights and re-styled rear tail lamps top off the minor tweaks to the CL's exterior.
The new Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is due in Ireland towards the end of 2010.
