Revised Astons for Geneva

V8 Aston benefits from development of more expensive versions.

Aston Martin has announced a raft of improvements for its 'entry-level' V8 Vantage model. The changes, to be unveiled by the company at the Geneva Motor Show, are aimed at enhancing the dynamic feel, style and competitive pricing of both the Coupé and Roadster versions of the baby Vantage.

Cosmetically the V8 Vantage has received a number of styling changes inspired by the Vantage S and N400 limited edition. Foremost amongst these is a new front bumper that houses a larger air intake to feed the 426hp, 4.7-litre engine and new 380mm two-piece ventilated cast-iron front discs complete with six-piston calipers.

Vantage S upgrades continue under the skin with the addition of the seven-speed Sportshift II transmission as an option over the standard six-speed manual. Replacing the older six-speed Sportshift unit the new gearbox is said to provide faster and more precise shifts, optimising acceleration and delivering a sporting driving experience. A new steering column has also been fitted, as too have wider tyres, which in all should lead to quicker, more responsive steering.

To be displayed alongside the V8 Vantage the limited edition V12 Zagato model will become not only the range topping Vantage variant when deliveries commence later this year but also Aston Martin's top model since the One-77 supercar. Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the DB4 GT Zagato, the new car is based on the V12 Vantage and features bodywork constructed from hand-rolled aluminium and carbon fibre that sees it weigh in at over 100kg less than the V12 Vantage. Only 150 examples of the supercar will be built and at the last count more than 40 of them had been sold already.
