Geneva 2012 review: Dacia Lodgy MPV

New seven-seat MPV to lead charge for Dacia launch in Ireland.

What is it?

Renault's cut-price Romanian brand is due to enter the Irish market in 2013 with the XL-sized Lodgy MPV set to join the line-up alongside the Duster and Sandero models. Dacia says the Lodgy will offer outstanding space at an affordable price, presenting an alternative to families who would normally take to the second-hand market when looking for a large MPV.

Why's it here?

The Lodgy would appear to offer a ready made alternative to the Renault Espace MPV, but with a price tag that means it may actually sell. Only time will tell though.

Show stopper or floor filler?

It is hardly a looker, but if Renault gets the pricing and marketing right then the introduction of the Dacia brand in Ireland could be an important one. Purse strings are getting tighter and 'budget' brands of old are moving more towards the mainstream with prices to match. In the Geneva Motor Show sense it's a floor filler though.
