What is it?
If you believe the blurb from Maserati you would be forgiven for thinking that this is an all-new Gran-Turismo Sport, but in essence it is little more than a facelift. The sleek coupé gets a restyled front bumper that optimises airflow for both the engine and the braking system; the headlights have also been redesigned and now incorporate LED daytime running lights; while out back darker, more aggressive taillights have been fitted. Power from the 4.7-litre V8 has also jumped from 433- to 460hp.
Why's it here?
By the looks of things because Maserati needed something to fill its stand. The GranTurismo Sport was unveiled alongside the perennial Maserati show car - the Kubang SUV concept - and a special edition of the GranCabrio built in association with Fendi, makers of high end handbags all of which seems... well a little underwhelming.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Having wowed audiences with the Kubang SUV in Frankfurt, Maserati's Geneva stand just seems a bit tame. A fresh look for the GranTurismo Sport is not likely to stop you dead in your tracks, even with a sizeable power boost, especially when you consider what Ferrari has lurking just around the corner. A disappointing floor filler.
