Peugeot launched the 4008 SUV at the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Mitsubishi ASX it will go on sale around the world with European sales starting in May. Unfortunately, it will not be sold in right-hand drive markets such as Ireland.
Parts of the 4008's platform are shared with the 4007 although shorter overhangs reduce length by 30cm. Peugeot talks of class leading space for people and luggage with compact exterior dimensions.
The interior features soft texture materials for the fascia with black lacquered decoration. Equipment levels are still to be announced but Peugeot will offer 'Open & Go' keyless entry, in-car Wi-Fi and a reversing camera linked to the navigation option.
For Europe two HDi engines will be fitted: a 115hp 1.6-litre and a 150hp 1.8-litre unit. The 1.6-litre produces 119g/km of CO2. In some markets petrol power will be an option.
The transmission offers selectable four-wheel drive. For normal and dry conditions there is a two-wheel drive mode to save fuel. The 4WD mode sees torque distributed between front and rear axles depending on demand. Under normal circumstances around 85% of the power goes to the front wheels. Lock four-wheel drive is intended for low grip conditions and up to 82% of drive can go to the back axle.
This class of C and D segment SUV vehicles apparently represents 20% of the market in Russia and 10% in China and Western Europe.
Russia and Ukraine will be the first markets the 4008 goes on sale in April. After that it will be launched in China, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina.
There are no plans to offer the new Peugeot 4008 for sale in Ireland at this time.
