Chrysler Group looks set to do away with recharging cords for mobile phones by fitting wireless charging to its range of vehicles. Developed by Chrysler's performance parts and accessory division, Mopar, the technology will initially be available for the new Dodge Dart, which goes on sale in North America shortly.
The optional accessory will retail for $199 (roughly €150) and is installed in the storage area located below the Dart's centre stack. Once a mobile device is fitted with the supplied case and placed on top of the charger the system is activated.
Much of the technology found in the Dodge Dart will also be available in the all-new Fiat Viaggio, which debuts at the Beijing International Auto Show on April 23. As both vehicles share the same Compact US Wide (CUSW) architecture that utilises the underpinnings of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, we could soon see the same technology rolled out this side of the Atlantic in the near future.
