Information on the location of speed cameras around the country is available and easily accessible, but trying to find this information on your smartphone while driving is at best ill-advised and at worst illegal. Thankfully, thanks to the new TomTom Speed Camera app, the information can be displayed for all to see on your dashboard with no need to be fiddling with touch sensitive screens while driving.
Available for the Apple iPhone, the standalone app provides details of fixed and mobile speed cameras, with the information being constantly updated by the 1.6 million drivers (across Europe presumably) who use TomTom's Go Live navigation system. The app's dedicated user interface displays information on current speed, the speed limit, the type of camera ahead and the remaining distance to reach it. A colour-coded warning system alerts users if they need to slow down. In addition, the app also offers average speed check support. This helps drivers stay below the limit within average speed check zones.
The TomTom Speed Camera app is free to download from the App Store but requires a monthly subscription that can be purchased in-app. Normally, the subscription would cost €4.99 per month or €29.99 for twelve months but a special introductory offer reduces this to €1.59 per month or €18.99 for the year.
