BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new C evolution electric scooter. The new e-scooter is currently under trial on the public road by BMW and will be showcased at a number of events across Europe.
The C evolution is powered by an electric motor with 11kW continuous and 35kW peak output - equivalent to 15- and 47hp respectively. Top speed is limited to 120km/h, plus a range of about 100 kilometres is claimed courtesy of an 8kWh air-cooled lithium battery, requiring only short charging times. Anti-lock brakes are standard.
BMW claims that advanced power settings will ensure there are no delays in torque build-up, enabling longer distance as well as inner-city commuting. A helmet stowage compartment, LED running lights and a 'progress bar' indicating the energy conversion status to the rider, are all neat practical touches that complement a sporty design.
There is no definite launch date set for the C-evolution. However, BMW is hoping to establish a network of e-scooter providers that may include vehicle rental companies and car sharing firms. Given the fact that BMW is showcasing a near-production prototype, the C-evolution may be on the market in the next year.
