Volkswagen Ireland has been confirmed as the main sponsor for the 2012 Irish Professional Golfers Association Southern Championship. The competition will take place on 27th and 28th August at Powerscourt Golf Club, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
This year's entrants include Mark O Sullivan the defending champion, Eamonn Darcy the 2010 championship winner, David Higgins, Damien Mooney and Francis Howley. Entry to the event is free and promises to showcase some of the finest golf in Ireland.
Powerscourt is hosting the Championship for the third year. The club is situated within the 1,000-acre Powerscourt Estate. Built to USGA recommendations the par 72 championship course measures just over 7,000 yards. The tees, fairways, bunkers and sand greens are described as being of exceptional quality.
Volkswagen has sponsored several competitions for men, ladies and mixed golfing over the years. Supporting the Southern Championship will be the springboard for further activity in 2013 and beyond.
