Suzuki, something of a grand-daddy of small affordable 4x4s, is adding another to its range. The S-Cross is designed to occupy the lucrative C-segment and tackle the Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Yeti head on. Shown here in concept form, expect a slightly watered down version in your local showroom next year.
Exterior
Probably the most modern and cohesive Suzuki this side of the new Swift, the S-Cross is a neat looking family SUV. There are LEDs everywhere, from the headlamps to the fog lamps and the taillight design is meant to suggest the muscles of an animal. Up front there's a large mesh grille emblazoned with an oversized 'S' badge and a chunky metal skid plate sat below.
The roof rails are integrated into the roof when not in use and at the rear the exhausts sit flush with the bumper. Hiding beneath the flared wheelarches is a set of 20 inch wheels.
Interior
There has been no details released on this so far but we'd like to think that in its bid to compete with those established rivals it'll not only be practical and spacious but reconfigurable as well. Time will tell on that one.
Mechanicals
Likewise there's little information on what will be under the bonnet, but the firm admits that it's famed for cars with small environmental footprints, low running costs, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also suggests the S-Cross will be amongst the lowest CO2 emitting cars in the segment - so expect a range of small petrol and diesel engines, probably with stop-start as standard. And while the S-Cross will undoubtedly be a four-wheel drive model at its core, in a bid to hit those targets you can bet that a two-wheel drive version will feature in the line-up somewhere.
Anything else?
For the show car Suzuki created a special colour - Crystal Green Metallic. Supposedly it has 'intensity and radiance which create a dynamic impression in the minds of onlookers. The image it evokes is one of nature in the city and the city in nature.' To our eyes it simply looks like the colour Porsche uses on its 911 and Boxster models...
