BMW has revealed the three-door i3 Concept Coupé at an exclusive preview night ahead of the 2012 LA Auto Show, becoming the fourth model in the burgeoning i division after the regular i3, i8 and i8 Spider.
Exterior
Unlike the regular i3 the Concept Coupé has three rather than five doors and has a sleeker appearance thanks to an extra 11cm added to its length and 2cm chopped from its height. The Coupé also sports unique bumpers front and rear, 20-inch alloys and a striking two-tone paint job.
Interior
For a 'concept' the interior of the Coupé is surprisingly production ready. BMW seems intent on bringing wood to the interior to back up the electric car's 'green' credentials but other than that much of the dashboard is adorned with existing BMW switchgear with a minimalist twist.
Mechanicals
Despite the new look the Concept Coupé shares its mechanical components with the regular i3 so packs a 170hp electric motor and single-speed transmission that BMW says will be good for a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a maximum range of around 160 kilometres.
Anything else?
BMW says the i3 Coupé is purely a concept car with no plans to put it into production, but with the five-door i3 slated to hit showrooms in 2014 it stands to reason that a three-door model is being considered. Might we see the i3 Coupé by 2015?
