New look for Merc E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet

Facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet revealed.

Mercedes-Benz starts the New Year with a fresh face for its E-Class range and the Coupé and Cabriolet get the same makeover treatment as their saloon relation. The new look also comes with some technical revisions to make the car safer, more efficient and better equipped.

Exterior
New headlights, with more LED technology, revised front and rear bumpers, new tail lamps and a bolder front grille feature on both variants, freshening up the Coupé and Cabriolet's looks and maintaining their lineage with the recently revised saloon.

Interior
Less obvious are the changes inside, Mercedes-Benz making a few detail revisions, but nothing revolutionary. Most obvious to existing E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet drivers will be the three-tube instrument cluster and a revised centre console.

Mechanicals
With the new look comes a range of engines revised to improve economy, emissions and performance, though Mercedes is remaining tight-lipped about exactly how much better the engines are over the old units. A new BlueDirect four-cylinder petrol engine is claimed to feature the world's first use of stratified lean burn process in combination with turbocharging and external high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation. All very clever, though we'll not find out just how clever until Mercedes reveals some consumption and emissions figures...

Anything else?
As with any Benz, safety is high on the agenda, the new E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet coming with Collision Prevention Assist - a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive braking. Attention Assist driver drowsiness monitoring has been improved too, now working over a larger speed range, while a number of new options like Distronic Plus, Pre-Safe and BAS Plus are offered optionally. Prices, like specific technical details, will be revealed closer to the cars' Spring launch.
