The Tokyo Auto Salon may play second fiddle to the Detroit Auto Show when it comes to January motor show hype but the Japanese may have just upped the ante with the announcement that a tuned version of the Toyota GT86 will star at the show.
This is not just any tuned version, however; the car of course was designed with the tuner market in mind so an HKS or Mine's example would be no surprise, no the big news is that this car will be shown by Toyota's in-house race/tuning division Gazoo Racing.
Toyota has just released teaser images of the car (known as the GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum) that show unique front and rear bumpers, an oversized rear spoiler and LED tail-lights that look to have been inspired by those of the Toyota Supra.
The Platinum Concept is an evolution of the FR Concept that Gazoo showed last year, which featured a 'twincharged' (super- and turbocharged) version of the GT86's flat-four boxer engine. Power is expected to peak at 325hp with the overall weight of the car being more or less identical to the standard car's.
The GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum will be shown alongside offerings from Toyota's in-house accessories department, Toyota Racing Development's (TRD) associated racing team Tom's and independent tuner Modellista.
