Spain's ambitious plan to introduce electric cars to its roads appear to have faltered early on, with the news that, so far this year, just 15 electric vehicles have been sold - way short of the target of 2,000 vehicles for 2010.
This is despite pledges by the Spanish government of €80m of subsidies for those who buy by the end of next year – with the Government funding 20 percent of the purchase, or up to €6,000, on each car.
Next year's target is to get 20,000 electric and hybrid cars on the road. The target for 2014 is 100,000 units.
The models sold in Spain were made by Norweigan firm Think.
