Chevrolet has revealed the all-new 2014 Corvette (that's 2013 over here), which brings with it the return of the iconic 'Stingray' moniker that hasn't been seen on the model since 1976.
Exterior
Although unmistakably a Corvette, the car has been completely redesigned from the sixth generation. The squared-off back-end has been replaced by a much more angular design, a theme continued throughout the car. The new front headlights are similar to those found on the current generation Viper and the bonnet features a V-shaped air intake. The Corvette Stingray also wears the new Corvette badge revealed some months ago.
Interior
Chevrolet says that a much higher quality interior can be expected over the outgoing model. Hand-wrapped leather, aluminium and carbon-fibre are all found inside; as well as lightweight magnesium seat frames. Two eight-inch touchscreens are said to house many of the interior controls.
Mechanicals
The Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard version of the model in its 60-year history. The revised 6.2-litre LT1 V8 engine pumps out 450hp and delivers similar torque figures to that of the current 7.0-litre engine found in the Z06. This should result in a 0-100km/h time of around 3.5 seconds and a top speed somewhere near 275km/h.
As well as the most powerful, Chevrolet has gone all technical with the 2014 'Vette; removing the old traction control system and replacing it with a five-way 'Drive Mode Selector'. Drivers can choose between Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track; each of which is said to feature different levels of throttle response, steering sensitivity and the like. Combined with a 50/50 weight distribution and a higher power-to-weight ratio than a standard 911 the 2014 Corvette should be pretty good to drive.
Anything else?
Left-hand drive versions are expected to be available in through official importers later on this year.
