The Suzuki SX4, the vehicle that is regarded by some to be the original crossover, is scheduled to be replaced by the S-Cross 4. The new crossover has been unveiled in Geneva and is based on the S-Cross concept that was revealed at the Paris Motor Show last year.
Exterior
Styling creases and a gradually sloping roofline have been combined with roof rails, side protection panels and skid plates at either end to create a 'go-anywhere' appearance. Ten colours will be available from launch including vivid Crystal Lime Metallic and Amethyst Grey Pearl Metallic. Eagle-eyed readers may also spot the 'SX4' emblem on the new model, which has been carried forward from its predecessor.
Interior
Trim and equipment levels have yet to be announced; however we do know that the S-Cross 4 will feature a double-sliding panoramic sunroof - a world first according to Suzuki. This massive sunroof should at least help convey a sense of space; while its 430 litres of luggage space is said to be one of the biggest in the class.
Mechanicals
Though the line-up for Ireland has yet to be confirmed, the S-Cross 4 will be offered globally with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, which are mated to five- and six-speed manual gearboxes respectively. A CVT transmission can be specified on petrol models and either engine can be had with either front- or four-wheel drive layouts. CO2 emissions start at an impressive 110g/km, but Suzuki has yet to commit to a fuel economy figure.
Anything else?
The S-Cross 4 is one of many new vehicles Suzuki is planning to launch over the next five years. Order books are to open in Ireland in September.
