Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann chose the backdrop of the Shanghai Auto Show to reveal the latest special edition from Sant'Agata. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50º Anniversario (to give it its full title) will be limited to just 100 examples worldwide.
Exterior
In a similar but less dramatic vein to the recently launched Veneno, the Aventador Anniversario features a deeply jutting front spoiler, deeper side skirts and a very aggressive looking rear diffuser, which also wears a '50' badge. The body kit, along with the car's wheels, is finished in black.
Interior
The interior has been designed to match the exterior and so the heavily sculpted sports seats and door cards are covered with yellow quilted leather, which also continues onto the transmission tunnel, while the dashboard is black with yellow piping. It is expected that each car will also feature a plaque inside indicating exactly which number in the series of one hundred it is.
Mechanicals
The Aventador has never been criticised for lacking in performance but in order to add a little more exclusivity to this edition Lamborghini has increased power from 700- to 720hp. The extra power extracted from to the 6.5-litre V12 engine is unlikely to have any great impact or improvement on the standard car's 0-100km/h time of 2.9 seconds or its top speed of 350km/h.
Anything else?
Although Lamborghini will be making one hundred examples of this special edition, it is expected that all will be finding homes extremely quickly. Collectors will be keen to add this special edition that commemorates the Italian supercar manufacturer's history rather than just being an updated performance edition.
